Hi Has anyone of you tried putting a hyperfile cd db in dropbox

I made a dropbox account and made it so that the control center places the files in the dropbox folder. I got a message that there where changes made and not everything was managed but ignored that

Now I get some stuff in the drop box but it doesnot sychronize the way I would like.

I Have a connection to the hyperfile on my developemnt computer using a second install of hyperfile cs on port 4901. I connect to that seerver by programming : localhost:4901 and that works when creating a db.

I can see them on my laptop as well if I connect to the same dropbow. But when I remove a db with the development computer it is still visible on the laptop?

Do I have to do something else then just placing the db's on dropbox. I ignored a message so there might be

Thanks

Hi Allard

it seems to me that you are trying to create a "poor man"'s replication...

I STRONGLY doubt that it will work, however.

HFCS opens the files in exclusive mode (that's the DEFAULT and ONLY mode) in order to have a faster access and protect them... So DropBox should be unable to correctly access the files and transfer their content...

Furthermore, HFCS changes the content of the files record by record, while dropbox is made to transfer the each FILE as a unit... This means that it would have to transfer the WHOLE file over the web a 100 times if you write in 100 differents records in HFCS.

If you need a replication system, I suggest that you wait 10 more days till I publish the sources of WXReplication <img src="/NG2013_WEB/ui/smiley/1.gif" align=absmiddle border=0 alt=":-)">

Best regards

Hi Fabrice

Yep I heard other people do this so I thought it might be a solution for me. It seems to work though. But there is problebly a problem if one accesses one db with two people drop box synchronisation takes to mutch time

thanks
