Hello,

I have the following problem.

I want to know if a specific solution can be defined as a SaaS solution.

1) A local Windev Program with a local database (can be on a local server)
2) A local Windev program with a database in the cloud
3) A Static Webdev site without database
4) A specific Webdev site for 1 client with a database with client data

5 A Windev program with a database in the cloud with an extra site for the clients for ordening.

Thanks,

Willy Hermans

Hi Willy

if you google "defune SAASé, you get :
Software as a Service (SaaS) is a software distribution model in which applications are hosted by a vendor or service provider and made available to customers over a network, typically the Internet.

Based on that definition, there are two parts to take care of:
- nothing is installed localy (made available over a network)
- the application is not SOLD but rented (it's a service)

so only your 3 and 4 qualify, as each of the other needs a local installing...

However, I've seen some companies where anything that was RENTED was considered SAAS, in which case all 5 of your cases could be SAAS, depending on how you are billing

Best regards

Hi Willy,

Fabrice is right... The software is typically sold as a service without a local installation.
You can sell WinDev programs as a service, but to my point of view you'll typically have to stream these over a network e.g. via Citrix.

Hi,

In my opinion it depends. If you host your db on the net and let people use that db. You take care of the backup etc but you give them a windev application to use the db then this could be a software as a service as well.

Just be clear on what you mean with SAAS. If you are verry clear on what you deliver you could name it SAAS software.

Just my opinion.
