Localization into Japanese (WinDev 9)

Hi WinDev community

I'm facing problems when trying to localize into Japanese. Did anybody of you successfully perform such a task and can help me? Searching the WinDev forums and the Internet didn't bring up any helpful results for my problem.

First of all, I'm not a developer, but responsible for the localization of our software. I have localized into Western European languages (such as Spanish, Italian, French, Dutch, etc.) without any problems, although some of my problems also occur with special characters from Eastern European languages (e.g. Polish or Czech).

I have tried different ways to integrate the Japanese translation into the software, but none of these led to success. Of course I had added the language "Japanese" in the project description before (and I have added the "Supplemental language support" in the "Control Panel").

- I changed the "Language Displayed" to Japanese, marked an entry, selected "Edit caption" and copied the translation into the field. First, the Japanese characters are displayed, but when I press "Enter" only question marks are displayed.

- I marked an entry, selected "Description" and copied the translation into the field. First, the Japanese characters are displayed, but when I click "OK" only garbage is displayed.

- I went the road via WDTrad, but when copying the translation into the translation string field only question marks are displayed in WDTrad. After message integration the question marks stay in place.

- I used SDL Passolo for translation instead of WDTrad. When I save the translated file with the same character encoding as the source language file (German in this case), then the target file is ANSI and the Japanese characters are not displayed correctly. After message integration the question marks stay in place. When I save the translated file with Unicode encoding, then the characters are correct in the target file, but this file can't be imported.

What do I have to do to get the Japanese language displayed in WinDev and, of course, in the compiled program?

The only hint I found in the WinDev help was something about "AnsiToUnicode". But where do I have to enter it?

Thanks in advance
Andreas
