Thanks for the reply - a bit more detail on question 2
2. Is the translation file generic? - i.e. can I have a file with all the common button texts for example and import it into any WD application?>>>
If I have a textfile with the correct translations from application A can I import it into application B

Where B has many but not all of the controls/messages etc of A
Regards

Derek,
No and anyway yea! WDMSG translation is based on two files and one pair of controls (identified by window and control name) for each message. If B has message you need in A but they are used in diffrent controls or windows, then no. But there is always a way, in this case you can append your translation file B1 to A1 (1 means source language), then load it together with A2 and go to the message you wish to translate and click "Copy trans.". This technic is very useful if you translate for a new language and you a nomenclature.
