Ansi vs. Unicode strings at runtime

We are converting a desktop program to mobile.
I am almost finished. I started with a network discovery tool for our products
that use Lantronix network adapters.
The discovery tool worked fine initially but I couldn't get everything else to work until
I switched to Use Ansi strings at runtime in the Project Configuration Description.
Now the network discovery code does not work on the phone.
It works fine in the emulator.

We are using SocketCreateUDP and SocketWrite
For the string to write Ansi was the original in Windows.
We have tried plain strings, Unicode strings and Buffers. None work on the phone.

Is there any way to get it to work in the same app or will I have to have a separate app?

Thanks

Jim
