I just got my copy of WinDev 8 and am going to start evaluating it as a replacement for Clarion. I have started a blog at
http://clcompare.blogspot.com
. Please drop by and comment on my observations and travails. Should have some content there within the next 48 hours.

Just remember WD is different than Clarion. Usually there are easier ways of doing things. Old Clarion farts like us end up coding what we need then finding out there was a function already in the product. Sometime the functions may not be readily apparent, sometimes hidden under the covers and harder to find because what we as Americans think is a keyword to look something up is not the keyword the French would use (thought process may be different). But once you find it, you're hooked on WD's ease. Ask John Marrone. Or as one Clarion user emailed me once:
"Hi Art - I am having a major problem with WinDev! It seems that there is always a function already defined that does what I need. Aren't there any 3rd party vendors out there that will take away some of the functionality for us old Clarion guys?!?"
DO NOT HESITATE to ask questions, we've been there, done that, and got the WinDev T-shirt (one of the goodies sent with the last LST ). Don't be like one who got stuck on something simple, declared WD not to his liking and stopped because he was afraid if he posted a question here the Clarion community would find out he was trying another product and flame him/not respond to his questions on the newsgroups.

Hello Donald,
I saw in yout blog that you did upgrade to Clarion 6. Can you explain (maybe by private mail => because of preventing a new language war; I'm sure Ron is lurking somewhere) why C6 didn't satisfy you?
Best regards
Raimund

Stability, stability, stability ...
Things breaking using underlying language statements because the coders of the ABC templates were changing things.

I don't think one month is going to be long enough to give you that answer!
