Hi Guy's,

I am new to any sort of development & have just purchased WinDev 20, so may end up posting a number of questions on here at some point.

I have WinDev 20 installed on 2 computers - 1 seems to be working ok so far (desktop computer), however I have also installed the software onto my laptop & have run into an issue that makes it unusable on the laptop.

The issue I have is when I create an Analysis & change the data type, the application lock's up & I have to quit from Task Manager.

In order to try & resolve this, I have completed a full reset of my laptop to see if there was a software conflict occuring with the previous software configuration.

When I install WinDev on a clean install, it seems to work ok (as far as I can tell), however once I install Office 2013 back on it then goes back to causing the application to lock up again.

Only software currently installed on the laptop is WinDev, AVG Anti Virus & Office Professional Plus 2013.

This lock up occurs nearly every time I try to change the data type in an analysis & results in WinDev being unsusable on the laptop - even when using the steps as provided in the tutorial for "My First Database".

The Desktop computer seems to run ok & I can edit the Analysis data type, however this computer does not have Office 2013 installed on it.

WinDev was installed in 32 bit mode using all the default settings on both machines (full Install)

Laptop is a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Intel Core i5 with 8GB Ram running Windows 10 Pro. The Desktop is also running Windows 10.

Any idea’s as to what could be causing WinDev to lock up on the laptop so that I can resolve this?

Thanks,

Steven

Hi Steven

first, you should install windev 32 bits in its own directory (c:\windev 20)
second, you should exclude that directory and your project directory
(c:\my projects) from the antivirus inspection scope. It's a development
tool, and we are doing in it things that are sometime mistaken for virus
work.

I am not aware of any problem regarding office and windev, so I'm
thinking more along the lines of a multiple programs interaction, as
office is used for spell checking in windev.

Let us know if that helps.

Best regards

Fabrice,

Thanks for your reply.

WinDev is installed in 32 bits in its own directory.

I have uninstalled the anti virus software & excluded the folders from Windows Defender, rebooted the computer & the same issue is happening. I have also tried it with Windows Defender totally disabled.

The only software currently installed is WinDev & Office (Including Visio & Project 2013) from a full reset.

As soon as I load a Project & open the Analysis - if I try & make any changes to the Type I get as far as the drop down selection list opening then I have to quit WinDev from the Task Manager - WinDev20.exe (WINDEV 20) Not Responding.

I have tried opening up the Tutorial Projects & Analysis, but it happens with that as well so is not from anything I have created myself.

Struggling to think what could be causing it.

I have just uninstalled office, but the issue is still there & still locks up. Currently removing everything else other than WinDev, but may have to resort to yet another reset to clear the issue then try reinstalling everything without the anti virus installed.

May have to try reverting the computer back to the original Windows 8.1, but can't think why this would make any difference given that is is running ok on the other PC that is running Windows 10.

Starting to annoy me now given that I have wiped everything off the computer to get this software to work.

Just a quick follow up on this in case anyone else experiences the same issue.

I got in touch with Tech Support & they have sent me through some Patch Files for WinDev as they have had an occurrence of this before.

Updated Patch files & issue now resolved.

Steven
