Hello All,

I have a couple of extremely old projects written in WD12.
I have tried to import / upgrade them to WD21 but with no success.

Has anyone else managed to do this / can you give me pointers please?

Cheers,
Robin.

Hi Robin

that shouldn't be a problem... lately I upgraded a windev 5.5 project to 7.5 then to 21...

Of course, the compiler is much stricter and will find errors that were there but not known, but as soon as you correct them, everything should be fine.

-OR- there are things you are not telling us ("with no success?????")

As for pointers... You open the old project with windev 21, windev 21 does the upgrading and gives you a list of compilation errors, you correct them, and you are done.

Best regards

Hello Fabrice,

Thank you for the swift reply.

I have tried with a couple of older projects, but it always follows the same pattern.
1) Prompts me to backup the project
2) Fails with "Unable to change the opening mode of C:......"

I have upgraded my laptop since using version 12, & have copied these projects onto my current laptop. Could this have something to do with it?

Thanks.

Hi, just some simple questions:

- did you try to remove read-only from the project before loading?

- was the project made with a licensed WINDEV?

- Crucial: can you still open the project with WINDEV 12? (download / install WINDEV 12 from ftp://ftp3.pcsoft.com )

Hello Guenter & Fabrice,

I have solved this with your suggestions.

It was a file permissions issue as you had indicated. Once I had given myself full permissions over the directory on my new laptop the project opened perfectly. (Ever so slightly complicated by running Windows under Parallels on a MacBook, but I would not have got there without both of your help).

Many many thanks for your assistance.

Robin.

Hi,

Did you copy those files from cd or dvd?
Then they will always be read-only.

Kind regards,
Piet

Hi Allard,

Yes I think I'm running the latest version - I will check in a couple of weeks once I'm back at home and have access to 'normal' internet speeds (I'm at work with very slow satellite communications at the moment).

Piet:

I copied the projects from my old laptop with a USB / external hard drive. I never considered that parts of it would be copied as read only.

Every day is a school day - this forum is fantastic for helping people.

Thanks again.
