Hi
we are developing a small app for private use on android and would like to also use it on apple phones. Is there a way of not using apple store to allow our few users to use the app?
Thanks Noel |

Hi Noel
you need an"Enterprise" version of apple developer account. This allows you to install on up to a few hundreds mobiles
Best regards |

Hi Fabrice
Will look into it.
One quick question : with the enterprise account, will the app need to be approved by apple etc or is it ok to do whatever you want and share on the private account?
Thanks Noel |

Noel,
I too have a similar requirement.
The Apple site implies that you can install test only versions directly up to 100 times per device type; i.e. 100 x on IPad, 100 x on iPhone etc... which doesn't seem like a lot to me?
I wonder if it means an unlimited number of installations/tests on up to 100 of each of the device types ...if you see what I mean? |

Hi
I've been using Enterprise Lic for more 2 years, it should be an unlimited number of iosApp installation for 100 iPads/iPhones and counter keeps track of diff. device only and it doesn't make sense as paying US299/yr for just allowing 100 times of per iosApp installation or correct me if I am not right.
It works a charm for me so far but it's expensive for developer testing purpose only.
HTH
Cheers

Noel, Sorry for hijacking your thread - but in answer to your question, it looks like the Enterprise version doesn't need to be via the App Store.
King, I know, it doesn't make any sense, but I never make any assumptions when dealing with Apple, so many thanks for the clarification. :spos: |

Hi Noel
It works like a charm and there is no limit to the number of apps nor the number of devices. One of their modes is the 100 devices for testing. When you go live there is no limit. You take the Ad Hoc deployment route.

Hi Andre,
I assume the Enterprise version allows to release to the Store as well as direct to device? |

Hi Darren
As I understand it yes. You get what they call a Developer account - one for the store, the one we use to test on devices - and the Enterprise one that allows you to deploy ad hoc to your users. It is all part of Apple's thrust into the business market. We were advised to keep away from the store for business apps as they are constantly being worked on and one may even have weekly or in some cases daily upgrades. The store cannot handle this. There is the not so small matter of malware on the stores and security issues and so on. So we run our own secure stores. Only specific users can download the apps and they go through a three pass validation before the app will work. And if there is a breach we simply switch them off and the app will no longer work on the device. Seems to work very well indeed.
Cheers Andre |
