PCS says it supports Windows 10. However, I have been holding off upgrading my development computer (Surface Pro 3 running Wx 20). Other than having to upgrade the hasp drivers, what has been your experiences upgrading? Safe? Or does Win 10 break Wx 20? Thanks, Art |

Hi Art,
I upgraded from Win8.1 to Win10 and it went remarkably smoothly. For example; the HASP drivers just worked. If by "safe" you mean "does everything work afterwards"? ...then yes, it all went ok and I've been running with it for a few months now.
All of this obviously depends on what you have installed on your dev PC; for example; I don't have any 3rd party virus or firewall software installed.
My main issue with moving from Win8.1 to Win10 is that (if I remember correctly) there's no Windows Transfer utility available - In the past, I've used this utility to "backup" Windows accounts before the o/s upgrade. In the end, the upgrade went seemlessly - but I put that down to crossing my fingers AND legs at the same time! |

Hi Art,
I recently upgraded without any problems. The hasp drivers were ok. However, I was always using the 32 bits version of Webdev and when I tried to install the 64 bit version, install told me it could not find a compatible dongle. When I tried to upgrade the hasp driver, installation failed because it could not uninstall the previous driver. Manual uninstall also failed, some message about a ..\WiseXXXXX.. folder not found. So I'm still working 32 bits and keeping my fingers crossed.
Regards, Piet |

Hi Art,
for using WINDEV 20+ within a Win10 environment - no problems to report so far.
However, in order to use WINDEV 5.5 and up (how far?) under Windows XP,Vista,7,8,10, any bits, one has to find an old WD-dongle (v14 or less)! WINDEV 5.5 does not work with current dongles. It took us the not so small effort of 1200 working hours to convert a big old WINDEV 5.5 application to v20/US. Otherwise there wouldn't have been any way of regular maintainence.
Windows 10 issue: USB 3.0 cards for desktop computers using the RENESAS chipset are not working stable anymore, because Microsoft "invented" their own drivers (32-bit & 64-bit) for these cards. It's here since the start of Windows 10 and still not fixed. Unfortunately, one cannot use a driver from the web or the maker's web site, it will be replaced within seconds by the "newer" (but faulty!) MS-driver.
Windows 10/64-bit issue: similar to the USB 3.0 cards issue: EPSON LQ 300+II ESC/P2 printer. The driver is made by Microsoft and therefore is unreplaceble by an original EPSON driver. The Win 10 / 32-bit driver (as well made by Microsoft) for this printer works OK. |

| Hi Piet, thank you! Since we converted this application, the parallel v14 dongle is not to be used anymore and we have all our applications on v19+ level. There's no PCS solution for this ... |

Hello,
I have also a Surface 3 and beside windows it gives me a lot of problems to upgrade to windows 10
With the original firmware there are a lot of Wifi driver problems so after upgrading to windows 10 i dont have any Wifi or ethernet !!!
Only solution was dowongrading back to indows 8 -> upgrade Firmware and then Reinstall Windows 10 !
A search on google with Surface 3 Windows 10 wifi problems brings you to the right firmware and a lot of explanations of this problem !
Beside this i run Windev 18 without any problem on Windows 10
Best regards, |

Since you had to upgrade your application to 19+, does that create any issues with clients who are still running a legacy Winders OS, be it 8, 7 or XP? (random thought... are there people still out there on XP?)

Hi Art,
no, everything runs well on XP and there are tons of our customers still using XP. I did not expect that but after releasing that new software as an upgrade to our old customers (300+) we found out that about 2 of 3 customers are still on XP! There are only a few Vista users and of the others quite a few got their forced M$ upgrade to Win 10. Still, there are diehards, like my wife, who do not accept the upgrade offer and are still using Win 7 oder Win 8/8.1. |

Hi Guenter,
I need to work from time to time in WD5.5 with dongles upgraded to v21 (new dongles since 19 I think) on a Windows XP machine. It's an old Acer m265 test-machine with SSD and it works like a charm...
greetings, Xavier |
