Morning

Has anybody developed a point of sale system linked to a scale? This is for a butchery so they will select the product, place it on the scale and I want to get that weight from the scale to calculate the selling price.

Thanks in advance

Hi, yes. My son did it for our POS system. But be prepared, in most countries such a connection has to be officially certified by the board of weight and measures or some other name. This includes heavy changes to your POS-software - it's not only the simple RS-232 connection and protocol of the scale. They will disconnect any uncertified devices and maybe, your customer and you yourself will have to pay a big fine. So, be careful!

Thanks for the tips Guenter. I will find out about the regulatory requirements.

Can you give me an idea how you achieved the interface to the scale? What scale do you recommend?

Remember I want to link from mobile app running of an Android tablet. Hope this is possible.

Hi Ericus,

I'm sorry, our certified connection is only from a WINDEV / Windows application to the scale. We are selling a Spanish product http://www.fecpos.es/en/balanza-f200-184.1001 which we're buying from a local reseller https://www.toperczer.com/elektronikwaage-f-252.html they have a license for calibrating the scales as well. We do not need a lot of functions, this one is cheap (around 200,- Euros) and does its job. For connection & certification purposes there's a whole line of scales with the same electronics inside. After about five seconds it gives back the correct measurement to the computer. But scales like Bizerba, Mettler Toledo, Sartorius etc. have different protocols and a differing behaviour!

Hi,

View years ago I had , almoast , a project where I had to figger out what need be done to get a scle to a pos system. In the EU there is strong regulations and in holland you need to pass a test, if you use the pos for customers ( privat public) you need to prove t hat the software works withthe right messurments and that it cannot manipulate te results form the scale etc etc etc and there are high costs involved as well!!!
