So, in order to be able to develop mobile apps for iphone, I need ot own an iphone and a mac...ok

---RANT MODE ON--
This morning, I found out that the screen of my iphone 6 was popping out of the case (and no, it did NOT fall)...
There are also defects in the display (vertical line)...

I of course tried to push it back it... no luck
I looked it up online, and it appears that it's a well known problem due to the crappy quality of the batteries apple is using. After a time, they SWELL and push the screen out...

It also appears that if you live in the USA, where lawsuit cost a lot of money, and you have that problem, you can just go to an apple store and they will exchange the phone for FREE !!!

Great, how do I do that in Guadeloupe?

Well first, I go on the apple web site to find WHERE to go... No luck... If you try and find a repair option in Guadeloupe, you end up chasing your tail through page after page (select the country, even though localization is authorized, select the type of product=iphone, select that you want a repair, click on localize, go round to the country and start again...

At some point, I was finally able to corner the web site into giving me the address of a repair guy in Guadeloupe. I called them, and NOTHING is free. At best, it will cost me 100 Euros.

So I decided to try and call Apple directly on their support line... When I called, I had a message saying that the call was billed 17c/minute.

So, let me get this straight :
- crappy quality parts in their product
- battery is swelling and breaking the 600+ euros phone
- battery will probably catch fire at some point and destroy (... something ...)
- support part of apple France web site is so badly made that instead of telling me it can't help me, it's just looping around and wasting my time
- I have to pay to repair that crap (and probably get another crappy battery in the process), so rinse and repeat
- and even to TALK to somebody about it at apple, I have to pay and they are happy to stay on the line for as long as I want, as long as I keep paying

In my opinion, that is highway robbery

And I know that I will pay to have the privilege to continue making applications for their system... But I need to rant a little about it first...

Ok guys -RANT MODE OFF-

have a good day !

Fabrice,

All correct, but you forgot to mention that if you actually want to develop anything, you have to pay Apple for the privilege of being able to do that - and you should thank your God and be happy that they allow you to develop for their crappy devices!

I don't like Apple - I don't own 1 piece of Apple hardware - I hope to keep it that way - wonder how long it will be before they take over the world and I'm forced to buy a piece of their sub-standard hardware?!

Hi Fabrice

:drink:

ROFLMAO!

You are not alone buddy. Seriously. When I first started writing the iOS stuff I had the same sort of feelings. My attitude has changed quite considerably though. Two reasons:

1. I have dozens of phones for testing [I inherit them as staff upgrade their phones]. I currently have three Apple phones [5S, 5C and 6Plus] and an iPad. The 5C is pure junk. The 5S has been remarkably resilient even after smashing to the ground when a staff dropped it and destroyed the screen. It still worked but was difficult to read with the shattered screen so I got the screen fixed. It is now as good as new and after these years still handles all the latest iOS upgrades. I wait for the day when it cannot be upgraded. The 6Plus is probably the best built and designed phone I have ever handled. I only use it as a computer with a hotspot when I am on the road and of course for testing. Of all the phones it gets the best response with clients during demos and training. For me it has become a thing of beauty and is rock solid. It is the fastest I have experienced using LTE.

2. The second reason is a business reason. Apple tends to be the device of choice with management. This has been my experience on six continents. And management makes the decisions. If management cannot see your app on their beloved device you may as well move on and look for another prospective client. We operate in the education sector and Apple permeates this sector at all levels. We service the top educational institutions and their clients, who use our mobile apps, are the leaders in most nations and they tend to use these devices. So if you do not support Apple apps do not bother competing. And it has paid off for us handsomely. Attitude here has made a significant difference.

Now it must be said that the rest of the devices here, barring one, are Android devices [phones and tablets] - lots of variants of Samsung - from their cheaper models through the 6 and 7 and now 8 ranges including Notes [missed the exploding 7] and many LGs and Huwaies [becoming very popular with their Leica cameras] and ... and ... and ... and ... and ... I even had a Microsoft 950XL for testing that I currently use as a phone as well - LOL - so I get to see a lot of these different devices.

iOS and Android have become like Windows vs Linux and this religion vs that religion and this political position vs that political position and... and...

I have become pretty agnostic about it all. And it does not look as though Apple is going to be around for quite some time. So best to behave when around an Apple devotee.

PS: There are dozens of Apple fixing houses all over the planet. An entire industry seems to have been spawned from it. I am surprised that you were not able to get sorted quickly.

But Apple is arrogant and we all know what usually follows arrogance - failure. So watch this space.

I really enjoyed that rant. It made my day.

Cheers

I recommend that you avoid Apple if at all possible (the ONLY possible reason to go that way is a business reason, and it HAS to mean a LOT of money)...

Stick to Android if you can.

Stick to Android if you can.

You should tell that to PCS. looking at WM for one version to another . IOS is getting more stuffs than android . you can guess which side PCS lean too.

I'm android only . the only reason I brought WM , is use to develop android apps. NOOOOOOO way I will go to IOS .

You folk are really brave for not supporting iOS. If we did we would be considered unprofessional and be out of business.

It amazes me that you actually have the option.

Fabrice

It is not easy to switch to Android as we've been using wm with ios since wm19/iphone4S/iPad mini and our guys (>30 iphone 6/6+/iPad) are running
wmApp during workday from 6am-5pm and works charm with wm22 now
with QRScan app for the warehouse and it is lots of $ if we change to Android phones/tablets.

Besides, developing QRscan in wm with ios is easier than Android with better
performance.

By far, we have no hardware problems except to replacing flattened battery of
being used heavily.

Hope you understand my situation in this case.

Cheers
