To open the default email client from my software I use mailto: that works perfect. But I have a client who uses google mail (online). Is there any alternative for mailto: for google mail or can I use some kind of url to start an email for google?

I dind't test it but as fas as i know you don't have to change anything in your software.
Just change the configuration of the default browser.
