Ok,

So the subject line says it all!

Looking past the obvious of why didn't I write down the password - I can't seem to find a way of even uninstalling the control centre & re-installing without it remembering the user for which I do not know the password.

Anybody know if it's possible to completely wipe the control centre including all settings and reinstall so I can at least set it up again!

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris

this is your lucky day... I had to sort out a similar situation a few days ago, and this is how I managed to restore everything correctly...

- stop the applications using the HFCS system
- Start the service management tool, and stop mantamanager and hfcs
- Copy the bdd directory of the HFCS installation (its your backup)
- then delete the original bdd directory... By doing so, you are removing BOTH the user DBs and the system files containing the users and password protecting the control center
- restart the two services
- run the HFCS control center, with original admin user and empty password
- recreate your own user andthis time write down the password
- import the users BD from their backupup directory

restart the applications and verify that everything is there. If you do not find the integrity information anymore, make sure that the applications are doing hcreationifnotfound, that will recreate them

Best regards

Hi Fabrice,

Many thanks, I did a very similar thing to that in the end but only deleted one folder from within the BDD which I assumed held the passwords/usernames etc.

I have to say it seemed a very easy way to compromise/access a database!

Thanks for your reply,

Chris

Hi Chris

>>I have to say it seemed a very easy way to compromise/access a database!

yes and no...

First , this password gives access to the control center and its functions, NOT to the files content protected by a completely separate password (at least I hope they are)

Second, if you have physical access/rights to the server and rights to DELETE a directory on it, you can also delete the whole DB, and that would compromise the DB much more :-)
